Product Description

This Winchester 1876 first model completed on August 23, 1880 in .45-60. We have a factory letter for this rifle. Typical dark barrel with no pitting, wood is in good condition no cracks, nice patina, no FFL required.

This Winchester Model 1876, called the “the Centennial Model “ at the worlds fair in 1876, with a 28 inch barrel (Sport model) serial number 3229 was manufactured on or around 1877. It is chambered in .45-60 caliber. The Winchester 1876 was carried by Teddy Roosevelt, issued to the Canadian Mounties and could take down an American Buffalo. Winchester finally had a gun that could fire a large caliber bullet.
The rifle is in good to fair condition for its age. All the parts and screws are there and the brass butt plate door is working, but there is no cleaning rod inside. It is in working condition with visible rifling. There are small dents in the wood, but no chunks missing.
The markings are as follows:
The top of the barrel:
 CAL. 45-60
Stamped on top of rear sight: “1876”
Bottom of brass carrier is stamped with: “45-60”
The serial number is stamped on the bottom of the lower tang: “3229” at the rear of finger lever lock.
This rifle was used but not abused. It has its share of dings, etc. for a 140 year old firearm, used by ranchers, farmers and hunters. Factory letter included. Footnote the caliber was changed at the factory and then shipped out in the ” new “ caliber 45-60 and with a different trigger in 1880. See Factory letter.
What a piece of history!
