Introduced in 1936, the Winchester Model 70 bolt action rifle is one of the most iconic sporting rifles in the USA. It even earned the moniker “The Rifleman’s Rifle” and was most famously used and endorsed by famed hunter and writer Jack O’Connor. The rifle is a successor to the Winchester Model 54. It uses a Mauser style action and has been chambered in numerous cartridges. While most notably a hunting rifle, the Model 70 saw some minor action in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam.
For sale here is a Winchester Model 70 manufactured in 1945. For its age this rifle is in fantastic condition with very minor scratches and dings on the wood stock and very minor scratches on some metal parts. Bore is in FANTASTIC condition for its age! Comes with a weaver scope (that has a German style T point reticle) and a leather sling. In terms of cartridge, one part of the barrel is stamped with "300 Magnum" which before the the 300 Win. Mag. was released meant "300 H&H Magnum". However, there is a stamp on the barrel that reads "Weatherby 300 Magnum". This leads us to believe that this rifle was originally chambered in 300 H&H and was re-chambered for 300 Weatherby Magnum. Actual weight 9lbs 6oz. SOLD AS IS.
A fantastic purchase for lovers of fine sporting rifles!
