It was adopted by the Union Army and the carbine version saw exceptional use amongst the cavalry. This firearms also saw use during the "Indian Wars" and was popular as a military surplus firearm through the late 19th century. The original version (and this particular carbine) was chambered oin .56-50 rimfire. In addition to it's real life use is has been depcited a number of times in various media, including the movie "Unforgiven" where it was used by Clint Eastwood, and the video-game "Red Dead Redemption 2".
This paricular spencer carbine is very worn. The wood has multiple scratches and dings as does the reciever, the barrel, and other metallic parts (see pictures for reference). It has multiple proof marks (some of which are faded), some are on on the action, and "Spencer Repeating Rifle Co. Boston" is stamped on top of the receiver. It's possible it may have been modified at one point. This should be considered a "Wall Hanger" and SHOULD NOT BE FIRED.
