Made at the U.S. Federal Harpers Ferry Arsenal, which was burned down during the early stages of the American Civil War. The JH Hall design was the first breach loading rifle. The Hall rifles were originally made in 1819 as a flintlock. This one has had the barrel cut down to 19 13/16 length, which was typical by the North and the South for use as a Cavalry Carbine.
