TOWER SEA SERVICE or "BRITISH COAST GUARD" PISTOL
Maker: Tower Armory
Made 1846
Description
An original 19th century British Sea Service or Coast Guard percussion, single shot pistol with no iron belt hook on the left side of the stock there is only one screw on that side. I believe that is model was never made with one. The lock is stamped with a crown over “VR”, and “Tower” at the rear edge. There are six or more nice British proof marks stamped into the top of the barrel, near the breech. B arrow O is stamp in the wooden stock. The original captive iron, swivel ramrod is intact and marked ( see photos please ). The pistol is fitted with typical British military style brass fittings. There are two dents in the wood near the bend in the grip. There was a iron lanyard swivel at the butt of the walnut grip/stock, but it is missing. A name, location or ship name is stamped on the side where belt hook would have been on other types.
Caliber: .58 Percussions. Nice piece history for its age fits nicely in ones hand. Thanks for looking and call if you have any questions. Footnote we found a US $1 silver certificate stuff in the barrel after cleaning and we will sell it with the pistols!
