Loading... Please wait...This turn of the century M1867 curved bayonet that was made in Austria or what was officially called at the time Austro-Hungary. The exact date I do not know, but a good guess would be 1870s to 1890s. It is in very nice over all condition. The very rare leather scabbard has a fold in the center but it is for the most part very solid. Old turn of the century oil has turned a varnish, and the silver metal parts now have a sort of brass/gold color to it. This can be cleaned off if you wish. All the metal parts should be in a bright steel or a silver steel color. The blade is still a very shiny silver with a few small black pockmarks of rust. The blade is Marked “ WEYERSBER KIRCHBAUM & SOLINGEN “ The hilt is stamped with the serial number “ 61317. “ and a unit number of an old Austrian Hungarian army unit. It is stamped on the other side of the hilt “ 13B “ then ”411”. The Scabbard and bayonet do not match exactly and are a few digits off. Look at the scabbard pommel tip and you will see stamped 461 the blade is 411, both are stamped “13B” . Many years ago somebody mixed it up in the barracks. the Werndl rifle was originally made just after the American Civil War and was an early breechloader and continued to be carried as a second line weapon even in World War I and beyond. Note, Werndl would become Steyr Mannlicher GmbH.
