1850 US foot officers sword unmarked with no scabbard, very nice grip, skate skin. Slightly curved blade. Brass is very nice and decorated.
This was designated as the U.S. Model of 1850 Officer’s Sword and was widely used in the U.S. Civil War. Staff officer models were more embellished and had
U S cut out of the brass
The brass guard and shark skin grip are tight, the wire is also tight and complete, very nice. The sharkskin is dry and shrinking leaving a seam exposing the wood, which is about 2mm. There is a bit of red velvet cloth to protect the hilt form the scabbard (Blade Washer or Pad).
There are only two dings on blade edge, and some rust on both side of blade starting at the tip and continuing up 4 inches. Otherwise, it has a nice dark patina on the rest of the blade.
This sword, is without Scabbard, no embellishment on blade, and no makers mark on the blade or handle, sadly.
