This is a Colt Model 1860 Army .44 cal, all matching, manufactured in 1862. The Colt model 1860 was by far the most prevalent side arm used in the American Civil War, especially by union soldiers. This example has a three screw receiver with two cut outs for the shoulder stock. The bottom of the back strap has a small cut out for a shoulder stock, with the serial number 46122.
The barrel is 8 inches with the serial number 46122 marked on bottom. The trigger guard is marked “44CAL”. The frame is marked with a serial number and “ COLTS PATENT“. Barrel wedge is marked #6122, these were usually lost or misplaced!
The cylinder is marked with “ COLTS PATENT No.6122 “ and “PAT. SEPT 10th 1853”. There is a small very faint “ ENGAGED 16 MAY 1854 “ you can see almost none of the naval battle scene. There is a small “T “ stamped in the cylinder too. The cylinder frame spindle is marked #6122! Totally matching serial numbers.
The top of the barrel is marked “ ADDRESS COL. SAML. NEW YORK AMERICA”. This is a truly excellent example of a Civil War sidearm that anyone would be proud to own and display. SOLD
