Colt 1849 Pocket Model .31 cal - Mfg 1866 with matching numbers. Once Samuel Colt had great success with his miltary contracts it was an easy decision to enter the civilian market, and he did it by reducing the size of his massive Walker . The first pocket models were called “Colt Baby Dragoon’s“ and became hugely popular. These were very, very small, light and handy pistols for their day (especially for a 5 shot repeater)! This one has a 4” barrel, with very little holster wear. The front sight is sharp and very “pointy “. There is a stagecoach robbery scene on the cylinder and stamped “ COLTS PATENT” then “ No 0343”. The matching numbers are on the lower barrel frame, the frame, the trigger guard, the cylinder, the bottom of the back strap, and the barrel wedge! The barrel is marked “ADDRESS COL. SAML.COLT NEW-YORK US AMERICA”. On the left side the frame is marked “COLT PATENT”. The left side of the brass trigger guard is marked “31 CAL” and forward of it, is a very small “ P”. The wooden grips are nice and most of the varnish is still on the grips. There is no silver plate left at all on the trigger guard.
