This is a US Miltary arm, 2/3 of the US Doughboys in France during the Great War carried a M-1917 chambered in 30.06. Winchester( parts marked W),Eddystone (marked E) and Remington (marked R) made both of these rifles for British and US. This rifle is a Winchester with a Remington bolt, this is normal as almost all US miltary firearms have interchangeable parts by design. There are plenty of US ordinance marks on this rifle.
This model rifle is considered to be one of strongest made from WWI and WWII! They have customized this model for years and sometimes the caliber has been increased because of their strength. Please look at photo.
